Harmless Habits Home: Avoid Using Dish Soap to Clean the Cutting Board

Some may be surprised by this. Actually, dish soap is not the best cleaning agent for cutting boards. Dish soap will either leave these tiny microbes on your sponge or deep in the crevices of the cutting board for you to reach. Instead, try cleaning your cutting boards with hydrogen peroxide and making deeper cuts with a knife.

By doing this, any risk of foodborne illnesses that may exist when using sponges and regular dish soap will be reduced. Just make sure your board is properly oiled as peroxide can cause anything to dry out.
